Everyone Dies For A Reason
Can Simple Changes Make You Live Longer?
Are You At Risk of Dying Too Soon?
Do You Want To Live Longer?
Do You Want To Be Active for a Long Time?
If you see a snake approaching you in the day time, you have three choices: you
can turn and run, you can try to kill it, or you can lay down and let it kill you (though
most of us would never choose the latter). But what if a venomous snake climbs
into your bed at night? You’re basically dead. It’s not your fault, really, or the
snake’s. Or is it? Should you have left your window and door open, knowing that
you live in an area known for snakes? Sure, you may not have been able to protect
yourself in every way, but just closing the windows and doors could have reduced
your chances so much.
This is the point you should not take for granted. We may not be able to control our
surroundings, but we can try to make the most of what we can, and take as much
control over our health as we can.
Have you ever heard of a Blue Zone? Blue Zones are specific locations throughout
the world where people seem to live longer than anywhere else. What’s making
them live longer, even though some of the locations are close to heavily polluted
cities, etc.
The chance of living to over 100 years old is ten times greater than that of the
United States, where the risk of diseases is less.
The Blue Zones are:
• Sardinia, Italy;
• Ikaria, Greece;
• Moai, Nicoya, Costa Rica;
• Okinawa, Japan
• And a group of Loma Linda Seventh Day Adventists living in America.
And the most interesting part was that none of them were using modern medicines
or drugs to live longer or be healthier. Rather, it was completely natural methods
causing them to live longer.
4
It’s easy to say that we die because of our surroundings. We assume that pollution
and toxins are killing us. We use examples like the Pima Indians, a Native American
tribe based in Central Arizona, currently being studied for having the highest rate of
diabetes in the world. Pima Indians have always lived in conditions where the food
supply was very limited, but as soon as the Western lifestyle infiltrated their lives,
including a standard American diet, they ended up with the highest prevalence for
diabetes.
So, it must be that our environment, our food and our way of life is killing us, right?
But now look at another group, only several hundred miles away, and merely 90
miles from smog filled Los Angeles, the Loma Linda Seventh Day Adventists, that
have more people living to be over 100 years old than anywhere else in the country.
What is it that they are getting that the Pima Indians are not? What is the secret to
their survival? And how can we learn those secrets and use them to live longer?
Why do people die prematurely? Because the perfect body system, created to
function for more than 100 years, is broken. But how does it happen, that so
perfect a system is broken so often by so many things like heart attacks, stokes,
diabetes, high blood pressure or cancer? How did it happen, that this system
worked for millions of years and started breaking down only a few hundred years
ago?
It is like a new car. If you keep your car in the garage, change the oil regularly, do
tune-ups, put the right gas in your tank and drive carefully, you enjoy driving your
car for many years. But if you do not do what is to be done as per you car's
manual and start putting diesel fuel in your car's tank, you are in trouble
immediately. Same thing can be applied to your health. So to figure out if you are
at risk of dyeing prematurely you need to find what you are doing against nature,
where you are not following your body's manual.
How to do this?
You need to compare every aspect of your life with the life of men when man was
created -- I mean cave men. I’m not suggesting we all live in caves wearing
loincloths, but you can learn proven ways to enjoy the benefits of modern society
while living longer and healthier.
So, what are the killers?
Food can kill, drugs can kill, toxins, bacteria, etc. The solution? Follow the manual
of your body.
5
So how can you check if you are at risk of dying prematurely? Check if you are truly
following your body’s manual:
1. Are you eating the same food as cave men did?
2. Are you drinking about the same amount of water cave men did?
3. Are you getting enough sun exposure to synthesize enough vitamin D to protect
yourself from fractures because of weak bones, heart disease, arthritis,
autoimmune disease and cancer?
4. Are you moving naturally?
5. Are you are a part of your family and community?
6. Are your food, water and air clean?
7. Are you exposed to any other toxins like dyes, plastics, fumes, drugs etc.?
8. Do you go to bed with sundown and get up with sunrise?
This is the basic checklist that might help you to identify if you are following the
manual or not, are you at risk of dying.
Throughout this seminar we will examine each question, and find out proven ways
that we can live a longer, healthier and more natural lifestyle.
What Can We Do to Save Ourselves?
We are exposed to poisons every day, and simply put in the right combination
these poisons will kill us. Whether it’s environmental, or in what we eat, or in how
active we are, or how much we drink, our surroundings can either make us or break
us.
“It can be one small your health problem that can portend a big disaster in your
life,” says Dr. Kalitenko a licensed holistic doctor. “But the symptoms may be so
small that you can hardly notice it. That’s when you need to make sure you go to
the right kind of doctor to be tested for the right things.”
Your body has been functioning well for many years and you’ve achieved a lot as a
person and as a spouse and parent. You handle stress well, you bounce back
from colds quickly. You seem to live a healthy lifestyle, and be a good example to
the people in your life.
But suddenly you start feeling tired from a minor thing that should not cause your
exhaustion. This change looks minor and you try not to be alarmed. You attribute it
6
to stress. Maybe you’re taking on a little too much and that’s why you’re so tired.
Not a big deal, you just need some rest.
But this small change may be the beginning of the end of your life.
“It is well known that cholesterol and other less known substances are clogging
your arteries. If you do not eat right or your gut is not working properly,” says the
doctor. “These dangerous substances are accumulating in your arterial walls,
creating plugs, which can rupture and cause a heart attack. The sad thing about it
is that not every plug can be detected by routine tests cardiologists are doing,
because some of them are growing outside the vessel, making then invisible.”
Or you may have normal cholesterol and feel safe, but you might be having too
much other dangerous substances in your body that clog your arteries, which are
not routinely checked, he adds. And you go and check your cholesterol, which is
perfectly normal, and end up having heart attack or stroke from clogged arteries.
“Could it be one blood test which can save your live? Or could it a whole lifestyle
change that you might need? Is it possible that adverse changes of your health
started many years ago?”
The simple meaning of a Blue Zone is an area of the world where people tend to
live past the age of 100. Scientists have been studying these areas for almost a
decade trying to pinpoint the exact traits and practices, environment and habits of
the people that inhabit these areas, in order to figure out exactly why they live
longer.
Author Dan Beuttner named five of these places as the official Blue Zones, and
those are the five that have been most commonly sought after as a guide to living
longer. Even though the discovery and categorization of these areas is relatively
young, the practices and methods that the peoples of these lands use, is primitive
and basic.
The five places are:
Sardinia, Italy: where it is said that there is a great rate of men who live past 100.
Okinawa, Japan: which houses some of the oldest people on the planet.
Loma Linda, California: a group of Seventh-day Adventists who suffer less disease
and live longer, though being only 90 miles away from smoggy Los Angeles.
Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica
Icaria, Greece: Less disease, less dementia, and a one in three chance of living into
your 90s.
7
Now, why do these people live to be older, suffer from less illnesses, and seem to
be healthier. It cannot be something that they all have in common, since the places
are all over the world, the food types are different, the air quality is different, the
regions are not alike at all. And yet they all share in some of the same qualities.
And it could be these qualities that save your life.
• They don’t smoke
• They eat lots of greens
• They are big on family and being social
• They exercise
• They eat lots of nuts
Author Dan Beuttner delves into each of these in his work, and we can use it, too,
to help guide us to live longer, more naturally, and healthier. With a lifestyle change,
commitment, and the right doctor conducting the right tests, you’re opportunities
are limitless.

Planet of the Apes: What We Can Learn From Monkeys
Natural Movement and Nuts Can Help You Live Longer
When was the last time you looked over at the treadmill next to you and saw a
monkey working out at the gym? How about animals lifting weights or jogging?
What if I told you not to ever go to a gym again? Well, I am telling you just that!
Just as you think it would be ridiculous to see a monkey on a treadmill, it is the
same for humans!
One of the ways mentioned in the “Blue Zone” theory, to increase your exercise
naturally, is to deconvenience your home. For example, stop using a remote
control, or a snow blower. Mow the lawn or clean the house yourself. Wash your
car. Make moving a part of your everyday. This may not seem like a big deal, but it
adds up over time.
8
The Blue Zones website lists five things you can do to keep yourself moving more
naturally. These are among a million possibly suggestions, but they include: getting
rid of the remote control, taking the stairs up and down, cooking more, gardening,
and not using the garage door opener (or buying a bicycle).
They are simple moves that add up to a much different you in the end.
Being more active in a natural way, can help you destress, get more done, and be
social.
Even every fad diet or pill mentions that it has to be part of a diet and exercise
routine. But you don’t need a routine to get your exercise in. Just keep yourself
moving! Walk your children to school instead of driving two blocks, yes, even if it’s
cold outside!
You’ll notice that adding even five minutes of more natural exercise to your day will
increase your energy levels, then try 10, then 15. You’ll notice how quickly and
easily you can work this into your life, and how many years you can tack on to the
end of it!
To find out just how many calories you burn during your every day activities, visit
www.aol.com/health and go to the calories burned tool.
Remember that monkey we talked about on the treadmill? Well, that same monkey
was smart enough to figure out, ages ago, how to take a rock and make it into a
tool to crack open nuts. Inside that nut, they not only found sustenance, but good
taste, and so many health benefits.
The Loma Linda Seventh Day Adventists in California suffer from less heart disease,
live healthier and have a higher rate of people living to over 100 years of age than
most other places in the world. One of this group’s secrets is believed to be their
diet.
In several of the Blue Zones, it is said that diet can be a deciding factor as to
whether or not you live longer.
Among the dietary choices of the Adventists is a heavy intake of nuts, more
specifically, a handful five times a week. It’s no surprise that nuts are good for you,
but can an entire group of people live longer because of them? Apparently they
can! And here’s why.
Eating nuts has always been good to help those with Coronary Heart Disease
(CHD), caused by high cholesterol. And the Loma Linda Adventists have half the
rate of CHD than the rest of the world. Even more odd, was that these results were
9
typical no matter what other circumstances differed, for example the rest of the
diet, or whether they were smokers or not. Eating that amount of nuts every day
proved to be enormously successful.
How can this help you? Eat more nuts in your diet. Remember still that nuts have a
high number of calories and fat so you want to find a healthy balance. Snacking on
nuts all day long, and not paying attention to how much you’ve eaten isn’t ideal
either. Stick to what the Loma Linda Adventists do, and eat a handful every day.
Pack it with your lunch for work and eat it during a 10-minute break. Make sure it’s
a handful. Here is some help on how to select the right kind of nut. Brazilian nuts
are great for detox. Pecans are said to possibly have some cancer fighting qualities,
basics like peanuts and pistachios give you protein and energy, walnuts lower LDL
cholesterol, and almonds help with strong bones and protect from cardiovascular
disease and some cancers.
A great recipe you can try to mix up your intake of nuts is Pecan Soup. Here is a
recipe for it:

"Why People Die Prematurely and How You Can Prolong
Your Life Naturally with Proven Methods” Part Four
Slow Your Aging Just By Eating Less
Calorie Restriction Is The Key
Calorie restriction, as of now, seems to be the only proven diet that actually helps
you live longer. Is it possible that the answer could be that simple? Eat less, eat the
right foods, and you will live longer? Can you risk not finding that out?
The verdict is in: Eat less, live longer. Just this past summer a 20-year study of
monkeys was released, showing that if they cut their calories by a third, it slowed
their aging and kept them alive longer. The same study also showed that there was
less than half the incidence of cancerous tumors or heart disease as the monkeys
who ate normally. They also kept muscle. So, how does this affect us?
In Blue Zones, calorie restriction plays an important role. In no blue zone is there a
propensity for obesity. As a people, in each Blue Zone, they watch what they eat,
and eat less, and live longer.
According to the blue zones study, as wikipedia states it: “Generally, the traditional
diet of the islanders (in the Okinawa Blue Zone) is 20% lower in calories than the
Japanese average and contains 300% of the green/yellow vegetables (particularly
heavy on sweet potatoes). The Okinawan diet is low in fat and has only 25% of the
sugar and 75% of the grains of the average Japanese dietary intake. The traditional
diet also includes a relatively small amount of fish (less than half a serving per day)
and somewhat more in the way of soy and other legumes (6% of total caloric
intake). With exception of pork, almost no meat is consumed; virtually no eggs or
dairy products are consumed either. Okinawans include pork in their diets.
However, the fat content of the pork.”
Look at any fad diet, because in your lifetime you’ve probably tried at least five of
them, if not more. Atkins, South Beach, any diet that calls for you to quit eating
something in favor of something else. What about all those magic pills at the
drugstore? How about proven diets, like Weight Watchers. They all have one thing
in common, and so do all the news reports about where this country is going in
terms of obesity.
“Counting and limiting your calorie intake is something that you can easily take
control of,” says Doctor Kalitenko, a licensed holistic doctor. “It is something that
11
doesn’t depend at all on outside factors, except how much willpower you have to
reject foods that contain too many calories, or not the right ingredients.
“I always stress a caveman diet. It will surely keep you living longer, and healthier. I
practice what I preach, too, so you can expect me to know a lot about natural
foods.”
Eating less not only helps you to live longer and be healthier, but it makes so many
aspects of your life open to more success. Who do you know who has made more
of a life from their weight gain and loss than former television star Kirstie Allie? From
gaining 100 lbs to losing it, it seems we are forever watching her battle, proving that
this affects everyone.
But, notice how much more successful she became when she lost her weight. After
a career on the show Cheers, the actress disappeared from the public eye, only to
crop up on tabloid covers, showing how much weight she gained. Once she
became the spokesperson for a diet program and lost weight, she was on top of
the world again, being offered reality shows, camera time, and kudos on her
success.
The bottom line in everything is calorie reduction and restriction. Eat less and live
longer. Fad diets and pills even tell you to take them while eating in moderation and
exercising. Weight watchers and other diets like Jenny Craig, whether they are
delivering to your door or making you attend meetings, all have the same thing in
common. Eat less and live longer.
We eat too much. Our diets consist of so many fake and fatty foods that we don’t
even realize how many extra calories we are taking in. A healthy vegetable to
replace a fatty carbohydrate can offer you the same satiated feeling for one-tenth
the calories.
Many suggest a vegetarian diet. I suggest a caveman diet. Eat meat, vegetables,
fruit. Stay away from carbs, sugars and dairy. These things are not natural for our
body to ingest and should be removed from our diets completely.
Here are some daily ideas:
• Eat nuts: as talked about in yesterday’s column, nuts have so many different
vitamins, contain tons of protein and nutrients, and many are also believed to have
cancer-fighting qualities.
• Stay away from milk. Adults aren’t meant to drink milk. For growing children, milk
is important, because they need the fat content for their growing bones and bodies.
For us, it serves absolutely no purpose.
12
• Drink plenty of water. Besides that it keeps us hydrated and keeps us more full so
that we ingest less calories, it also works to help us move our bowels, and flush out
toxins that way.
• Eat more fruit, but skip the juices. Fruit is ok to eat, because the fibers from the
fruit help to moderate the amount of sugar we are taking in, helping us to break it
down. When we drink the fruit juice solely, it goes against what our body was
naturally trying to do.
Don’t forget that your weight gain and struggles can also be a hormone imbalance.
It is important to check this out with a doctor. Learn more about bioidentical
hormone replacement therapy in another of my 9-part seminars.

"Why People Die Prematurely and How You Can Prolong
Your Life Naturally with Proven Methods” Part Five
I Say “Tomato,” You Say “Live Longer”
Antioxidants in Tomatoes Can Keep You Ticking
Could it possibly be that a tomato can help you live longer? We know that our diet
plays a major role in how long we live. The foods that we eat, from leafy greens, to
the amounts of meat and dairy, to where we get that meat and dairy all have a huge
effect on our health. But is it possible that the tomato, specifically, can be
responsible for lengthening our lives?
We’ve all heard of the healthy properties of tomatoes in recent years. Suddenly the
word lycopene became a staple in our vocabulary. It seemed almost like a fad.
Mutivitamins began advertising “now with lycopene.” But what’s so important about
tomatoes and lycopene?
13
The answer is: Everything!
We already talked about how your diet can affect your life substantially: from what
you are eating to how much you are eating. You need to think about your calorie
intake as well as the processing that goes into your food. You need to think about
how natural it is, and how it breaks down in your body. Not all foods are the same
in all forms, either. For example eating a piece of fruit and having fruit juice are two
totally different things in how our body takes them in and breaks them down.
In at least four of the Blue Zones, tomatoes are a mainstay in the daily diet.
With tomatoes, you almost can’t go wrong.
According to the wikipedia entry for tomatoes, it is thought that the Pueblo people
believed that those who witnessed the ingestion of tomato seeds were blessed with
powers of divination. That’s a lot of pressure for a little tomato.
Until the 1800’s tomatoes were thought to be toxic and never consumed. Now, we
know that they contain large amounts of vitamin C, vitamin A, potassium and iron.
But the red pigment contained in tomatoes, called lycopene, has been found to act
as an antioxidant, replacing our last antioxidant fad, beta-carotene.
“An important quality of tomatoes is that they contain soluble fibers, which bring
cholesterol down,” says Doctor Kalitenko. “Other foods that do that include
apricots, bananas, oranges and peaches. Foods containing insoluble fibers help
with bowels and avoiding constipation. Those include cabbage, green beans and
dark leafy vegetables.
“Tomatoes are wonderful, because it is so easy to get your intake of them, and they
are so readily accessible all year round. Even if you live in an apartment in New York
City, you can grow tomatoes.”
Harvard studies have found that men that have 10 servings of tomatoes per week
can lower their risk of prostate cancer by 45 percent, while seven servings a week
have been found to lower the risk of rectal, colon and stomach cancers. Other
research now indicates they can help prevent lung, breast and endometrial
cancers.
Choose red tomatoes, which have the highest amounts of both beta-carotenes and
lycopene. Even though raw tomatoes are great, you can release even more of their
benefits by cooking them.
14
Another important thing to keep in mind here, since we are talking about the
brightness of tomatoes, is the importance of a rainbow diet. Bright, deep colored
foods are very healthy. Eat fruits and vegetables of every color. They are bright
because Mother Nature wants us to notice them first. Mother Nature wants us to
pick them and eat them first!
Perhaps the greatest tidbit: tomatoes do not lose their nutritional value when
cooked or canned, or used in sauce, so you get their benefits no matter what.
A great quick recipe for tomatoes: cut one in half, place in the microwave for
several seconds. Then just put some fresh ground black pepper right over the top.
It’s as easy as that!

Your Life Naturally with Proven Methods” Part 6
It’s All In What You Drink
Water Can Be the Key to Longevity
Could your water be poisoning you? Could the amount of toxins in the tap water
that you drink be causing irreversible damage?
“The amount of toxins and arsenic that is allowed in our water is astounding,” says
Doctor Kalitenko, a holistic doctor. “You could be poisoning yourself and not even
know it. And combine that with the amount of toxins in our food, and our
environment and you will see that you have to look to stop the poisons that we are
taking for granted.”
Believe it or not distilled water is a very controversial subject. Many people, such as
myself, suggest drinking distilled water to keep from ingesting possibly harmful
toxins.
15
Others suggest that the natural nutrients in water are super-beneficial and by
removing them from water, we are also removing the benefits of drinking it.
Distilled water is made when you evaporate the water and then condense the
vapor. The disadvantage is that it is devoid of any minerals, while drinking water,
lets say from a stream, contains microelements. My point here is that the amount of
minerals you really get from water is so minimal, that you have to take supplements
anyway, so why take the risk of getting the toxins into your system as well?
Another point is that, today in nature, you will never get clean water as you would in
the past. There is nowhere on earth that you will have water without toxins. Almost
every river is contaminated in some way. There is everything from mercury to
estrogen pollution, which can affect us so severely.
“Because we will never have natural water as clean and pure as it should be, I think
that it is a better idea to get distilled water and get supplements for the
microelements,” says Doctor Kalitenko. “Water has never been a major source to
give us our needs. The awful thing is that even distilled water comes in plastic
bottles so you end up getting some toxins anyway.”
Besides just making sure that you drink the right amount of water, there is much
more to do in order to make sure that we stay healthy. Balance is the key.
Balancing our foods, our supplements, and our hormones. If our hormones are out
of sync, our bodies will be out of sync, too. You can learn much more about
hormone balancing and neurotransmitter balancing on our website.

"Why People Die Prematurely and How You Can Prolong
Your Life Naturally with Proven Methods” Part Seven
Bask in the Sun: Live Longer
We Limited Our Exposure Too Much
The headline of this story alone can spark a huge debate. Doctors warn us about
staying out of the sun. We all know that it can of course, cause melanoma. But
recently, there has been a push made to remind us that we still need to spend a
little time in the sun. And that disobeying your doctor’s orders can actually help you
live longer.
The sun, since the beginning of time, has been honored and celebrated as the key
to life. From the Egyptians, to the Greeks and Native Americas, to the Persians, to
the Pagans, and everything in between, there are a slew of gods and idols that
represent life and birth and creation, and they all have to do with the sun.
Blue Zone author Dan Beuttler says that 15 minutes a day in the sun can help you
live longer, too! In the Okinawa and Costa Rica blue zones it is one of their rituals to
make sure they spend plenty of time in the sun.
“What’s important to know,” says Doctor Kalitenko, a holistic doctor, “is that
spending only a few minutes a day in the sun, will help you with the amount of
vitamin d that you need when there is no sun available. It can keep you alive and
sunny all year long.”
Vitamin D, which exposure to the sun can provide, can help protect you from
atherosclerosis, osteoporosis, Alzheimer's, and autoimmune disorders such as
rheumatoid arthritis. It also plays an essential role in promoting blood clotting after
tissue injury. Continuing research shows it can help in anti-aging and cancer
prevention.
According a 2006 study, data on thousands of patients from 13 countries showed
that patients that get treated in the summer, when there is more sun, have a higher
rate of survival than those treated in the winter.
A study of nearly 2,000 people found that those with lower levels of vitamin D had a
62% higher risk of a cardiovascular event than those with normal vitamin D levels.
17
Low levels were also linked with hypertension, elevated VLDL triglycerides, and
impaired insulin metabolism, according to a Wikipedia entry on the subject.
And most importantly in the Blue Zone areas, is that Vitamin D has a direct link to
living longer, and slowing aging.
So how do we find that balance? It seems almost a contradiction that going out in
the sun can cause wrinkles and be harmful to our skin, yet it gives us Vitamin D,
which can be an anti-aging benefit. How about that it can help fight cancer, yet can
cause us to get melanoma. And yet, you may think you can take the daily
recommended dose of a supplement and that would fix the problem, but those
amounts are not nearly enough.
The key here is balance. Doctors are starting to reconsider that we need to always
be covered in sunscreen. Most Americans are now found to be Vitamin D deficient.
Remember those Blue Zones we talked about? The places where people tend to
live longer than any other place in the world? Well, in the Okinawa, Japan, and
Costa Rica blue zones, it is actually thought that one of the reasons people live
longer there is their healthy exposure to the sun.
Limit your exposure. Make sure to get out into the sun every day. Make sure that
you take a walk, get your light intake, even tan your arms and legs for 15 minutes,
before you apply sun block. You don’t have to go to extremes and bake in the sun.
Don’t let your skin burn. Just get enough and get out.
Vitamin D deficiency is just the beginning of what you may be feeling; you can have
a hormone imbalance, in which case looking into something like bioidentical
hormone replacement therapy can help. Contact our offices to learn more about
your options.

"Why People Die Prematurely and How You Can Prolong
Your Life Naturally with Proven Methods”
Red Wine Can Help You Live Longer
But You Don’t Have to Drink To Get Its Benefits!
Why is it that French people can eat foods high in fat and still tend to be thinner and
healthier than obese Americans? That seems to be the $64,000 question.
In 1991 the French Paradox was born by Scientist Dr. Serge Renaud in France. He
noted that Frenchmen, even though they eat diets very high in fat, still tend to have
less coronary artery disease. In 1991, an American television show ran the story,
and the wine companies went nuts, asking to label red wine a health food.
Over the past 20 years, we have now grown to accept this theory, and more and
more studies are released regularly as to why. In the Blue Zone theory, it is
connected to the reservatol in wines.
“The wine debate is always on! Drinking wine can keep you healthy, say doctors.
Limit your alcohol, drink more alcohol, one glass, two glasses. It can go all over the
place, it seems,” says Doctor Kalitenko. “Well, it turns out a moderate amount is
very good for your health, but make sure you are not drinking before bed, as it can
distort your sleep.”
There are several Blue Zones in the world, from Japan, to Greece, to Costa Rica
and even one in the United States. They all seem to have one or two specifics as to
what keeps their people living longer and healthier lives. Mostly they have a lot in
common, a generally healthier diet. Even though it may vary because the regions
are different, many of the ideals are the same.
This is very important to know though: you don’t have to drink in order to get the
benefits of red wine. In no way would a doctor ever encourage someone who is an
alcoholic or someone who may not be able to handle drinking, to drink every night.
That can easily become a habit, and dangerous!
Food and drink seem to be one thing that almost all the zones have in common.
From herbal teas in Greece, to a special corn tortilla in Costa Rica, to a diet high in
soy and tofu in Okinawa, what you eat and drink can make you live a longer and
healthier life.
19
A perfect example of this is the blue zone in Sardinia, Italy, where people were
found to live longer and healthier partially due to a wine with the world’s highest
levels of antioxidants.
Cannonau is the local red wine in Sardinia, Italy, and the benefits of red wine have
been much praised in recent years by modern medicine. It’s become almost
generally accepted that a glass of red wine every day can help keep you healthy.
The ways it does are simple: as an antioxidant it helps prevent heart disease by
increasing levels of "good" cholesterol and protecting against artery damage.
And, yes, though it is good news that you can drink wine and help prolong your life,
it is also never encouraged that you start drinking alcohol regularly if you normally
do not, as the negative effects of alcohol outweigh the positive ones of the
antioxidants. Red wine benefits have been linked not only to reservitol (the
antioxidant), but also to the calming effects that alcohol has, and how it can help in
stress reduction. You can get the benefits of the antioxidants in pill form, too,
without ever drinking the wine!
Believe it or not, you can find Cannonau wine on shelves here, with a moderate to
high price tag.

"Why People Die Prematurely and How You Can Prolong
Your Life Naturally with Proven Methods”
Bottom Line: Change To Be Healthy
Committing To A Better You Is The Only Proven Method To
Living Longer
You don’t want to look back at your life and see that the relationships you have
created, the way that you are has left you alone and unhappy. You don’t want to
see that your partner has poisoned your life. The value of being social is
immeasurable. Or is it? Maybe it can also be directly linked to helping you live
longer.
Being Social is A Key: You may not think so when it seems like your child is on a
different planet, texting friends all day and night, playing on Facebook or Myspace.
You tell them to get off the computer and be more social. But the truth is, our kids
have it right. They are using technology to always stay in touch, in tune, and with
friends, they are more social than ever. Even video games can be played online with
multiple players, keeping their brains stimulated.
“I’ve said it so many times before, that stress plays such an important role in how
we function, how our immune systems work, how our brains function,” Says Doctor
Kalitenko. “When something happens to us, we automatically respond. We try to
make it better. But when we are stressed, there are too many other things on our
minds to make them function properly.”
We shut down, and often our problems that stress us out do not get solved, and
we don’t approach the normal stuff in our lives as well either because our brains are
stretched to their limit.
Then we don’t take care of ourselves, our bodies don’t fight as well, and we get
sick.
Being mentally and emotionally stable can be a big part of living longer and healthier
in those years. Being social is important. Being surrounded by people who give to
you and increase your energy, rather than be around those that only suck the
energy from you is important.
In the Blue Zone theory, it is called being part of the right tribe. And it’s basically
understanding that you are not alone in the world, that you are a part of something
21
healthy, that all this reduces your stress, giving you the ability to be healthier and
take better care of yourself.
Stress reduction is easy, but it takes a strong commitment. Often, we commit too
much effort to the things that stress us out, rather than those that will fix us.
Make a commitment to get a good night’s sleep. Sleep often helps us resolve
problems that we cannot resolve in our waking hours.
Make a commitment to be more social. Seeing that other people are stressed out,
too, makes you feel you are not alone. It also helps you remain connected to the
world.
Eat right, because if your gut works properly you will be less stressed. Stick to lean
meats, fruit, and vegetables. Stay away from dairy and carbs.
The bottom line is that you need to make one change to get on the path to being
healthy. Every commitment you ever made began with one step at a time. Commit
to making a change and see where it can lead you. No one that was famous for
leading ever just jumped in and led. You have to work to get what you want and
you will notice that things can fall, and will fall into place.
Look at actor Harrison Ford. Famous for being a leading man. You would never
think of him as the carpenter on a set of a movie, would you? But that is exactly
where he started, and it took his commitment to move up and work hard and make
small changes. He took charge and got notices and look where he is now!
You have to be brave and be ready to make a change.
Living a “blue zone” life style isn’t that hard. In the past nine pieces that you read,
you came across many good ideas to take with you in your new goals. You should
you’re your mind, too, to learning more about bioidentical hormone replacement
therapy and neurotransmitter balancing. All these components, which we work with
in our offices, can be key to giving you the life you always wanted.

If you're still not sure how you can benefit from Functional Medicine Approach, look at the list below to find out how others are getting better with our treatments:
You're at peak performance. Your hormone levels are optimal, your fat-to-muscle ratio is low, and your vitamin levels are optimal, provided that you're not toxic.
Your hormone levels start declining. The first to go down is the growth hormone melatonin, then DHEA. You're fat-to-muscle ratio starts climbing up. You may notice that your energy level is not as high as before, and your sleep is not as deep and refreshing as in your 20s. Your sex drive and performance levels are still high, unless you're toxic. At this time, you may consider checking your hormones, vitamin and mineral levels to make sure that your performance is optimal.
Your hormone levels are declining at a more steady pace. For women, it is progesterone and testosterone that go down first, resulting in weight gain, poor sleep and mood swings. Then estrogen goes down, resulting in hot flashes, insomnia, unstable mode and anxiety. Your periods become irregular, then less frequent, and then stop altogether. In men testosterone declines while estrogen is going up, resulting in weight gain, muscle loss, low sex drive and erectile dysfunction. At this time you should check your hormones, minerals and vitamins to correct hormonal imbalance.
Your sex hormones, as well as melatonin, growth hormone DHEA continue to decline. At that time your digestive tract function starts to deteriorate, resulting in poor vitamin and mineral absorption. This makes your problems even worse. As this time it is necessary to check your minerals and vitamins to prevent life-threatening deficiencies. Checking your hormones is imperative to correct hormonal imbalance.
Your sex hormone levels start approaching zero. Growth hormone melatonin and DHEA are going down also. Your digestive tract function continues to degenerate. You start losing your bone strength, your memory is degenerating, as well as your vision, your ability to concentrate and sleep. At this time, if you do not replenish your hormones, vitamins and minerals, you're at high risk of losing your bone mass, muscle mass, memory and sex life.
