If you want your hands to be clean, you need to wash them. But it's not always enough. If you continue to contaminate your hands again and again, you will have dirty hands no matter how good you are at washing them. The same thing goes for detoxification. You need not only to clean yourself with detoxification, but also to change your lifestyle in order to keep those toxins from coming back.
It’s like cleaning up an apartment that has a messy roommate living there. You can clean it, and make it look great, but as long as the messy roommate remains, you can never have control over how clean it will be, and every time you clean, you won’t always catch everything. It will keep building dirt again.
With detoxification, you will no doubt get better to some extent, but you still need to detoxify yourself, because toxins can stay in your body for years and even for life.
There are several typical environmental pollutions that we deal with on a regular basis:
So, how are we exposed to those toxins? Well, there are several ways:
We can work to clean up our food in several ways.
1. We can make sure that we buy and prepare our food ourselves, ensuring, as much as possible, that it is clean and what has gone into the preparation.
2. We can buy organic, which will save you money and time because conventional food has 5 to 7 times less vitamins, microelements and other nutrients then it is supposed to. Moreover, by eating wrong food, you damage your gut, making it impossible for it to work efficiently. What it means is if your gut is damaged by wrong food like wheat or bugs like yeast, it cannot absorb even the best microelements, vitamins and other nutrients in the world. You have to fix your gut first.
3. Choose naturally fed meat like grass fed beef to make sure that you're getting real meat. Corn fed beef does not have enough microelements and omega 3 fatty acids that protect your heart. Please note, that omega 3 fatty acids are not from fish only. They are coming from grass fed beef as well. Another benefit of eating grass fed beef is much less chances to get dangerous bugs that are resistant to your gastric hydrochloric acid ( HCl ). The reason for that is: corn makes a cow's gastric content acidic, but normally it should be neutral. Therefore in the cow's stomach the only bacteria that can survive is acid resistant. It means, that it is resistant to your HCl in your stomach too. Therefore if you eat corn fed cow's meat, contaminated with those acid resistant bacteria, you are not protected by HCl of your stomach anymore, and bad bugs can enter your gut without any problems.
4. You should always also make sure, that food looks fresh and natural to you. Avoid foods that look contaminated or spoiled or stale or infected with yeast. This one is especially dangerous, because it is resistant to many treatments. It is a very difficult to diagnose and treat yeast.
5. You should also cook food to the lowest temperature allowed for safety. Avoid temperatures above 100°C – 212°F. The reason: if you go above, you will alter your food therefore depriving it from its value, you will destroy vitamins, proteins, etc. And if you go even more above, like by grilling, you will create the char, which is linked to cancer, because it is carcinogenic.
6. Eat fresh, because if you don't, you will give bugs the opportunity to feed on your food and contaminate it.
7. Avoid contact of your food with any type of plastics. Never ever heat your food in the plastic wrap or in a plastic bag. If you cannot avoid your food touching plastic, then either remove the superficial layer, or if you cannot, then wash it. The reason is: plastic often contains endocrine disruptors that work like human's hormone estrogen.
8. Filter your water. Avoid use water from plastic containers, bags or cans, even though it is filtered. The purity of the water, sold in plastic containers are not usually tightly regulated, therefore filtered tap water may be better, then water from plastic containers. Distilled water may be an option. I personally recommend using additional microelements and micronutrients water solution, if you opt for distilled water.
9. Avoid your food contamination from pollution in your home. Leave your house or your apartment, if it is contaminated by a mold/yeast. If you smell mold/yeast in the place you live – you may be in trouble.
10. Foods to avoid because they may be toxic for you:
-- alcohol, because it increases the conversion over your testosterone into estrogen, also changes the food passage through your stomach, hits your liver, etc.
-- caffeine, because it increases your heart rate therefore making your heart work more than it is supposed to. It increases the conversion of your testosterone into estrogen, etc.
-- refined carbohydrates ( carbs ), complex carbs, etc., unless it is a natural unprocessed fruit, because when you eat fresh fruit, its fibers stabilize your sugar level. If you eat carbs, especially refined, you have a much higher chance of gaining weight. Your fat tissue is the storage for toxins. Therefore to get rid of toxins get rid of your fat.
-- wheat and other gluten containing grains. Reason: it contains protein called gluten, that we are not designed to digest properly, because humans were created before agriculture came. Gluten creates an inflammation in your gut preventing it from proper digestion and absorption of food.
-- milk and milk products because they contain carbohydrate lactose that we can digest with enzyme lactase before age 1, because after that we almost lose this enzyme. Left undigested, lactose becomes the food for bad bugs therefore promote their growth. It also creates a lot of gas in your gut, therefore disrupting digestion, absorption and food passage. It is not necessary to drink milk because of calcium, as is suggested by the food manufacturers. The same applies to goat milk, but to a lesser extent. You can get enough calcium from fruits and green vegetables. It is not necessary to eat yogurt, either, made from milk. If you want more beneficial bacteria, you can think coconut milk yogurt.
Another reason to avoid milk and wheat: if you have trouble with your gut, your estrogen clearance may be impaired, and that can increase your risk for cancer.
11. Drugs to avoid:
-- drugs, that bring your hydrochloric acid secretion down or interfere with its action like Prilosec, Prevacid, Pepcid, Mylanta, etc. Take them only if it is really necessary. Avoid taking those medications for a long time. There are two reasons not to take them: they decrease your HCl production therefore preventing you from absorbing vitamins and microelements like vitamin B12, magnesium, iron, calcium, etc. Scientific studies suggest that people who suffer sudden cardiac deaths have low magnesium levels. Do you want to play with this? Also HCl kills bad bugs, where they try to enter your stomach. If you don't have enough HCl -- they are welcome to come in. HCl also is necessary for digestion itself and digestive enzymes activation. No HCl – no digestion and hence no absorption, resulting in less nutrition you need so much. Also HCl closes the upper esophageal sphincter therefore preventing heartburn.
-- antibiotics for long-term, unless it is really necessary. Reason: some of antibiotics, but not all, can kill your good bugs in your gut, therefore creating living space for bad bugs. And you may end up with severe back problems.
-- medication that is toxic for your liver like Tylenol. No normal liver function – no detoxification, because liver plays the first role in the detoxification process.
-- anti-inflammatory medications like Motrin, Celebrex etc. Reason: Motrin may cause stomach ulcers and therefore severe bleeding, Celebrex is linked to heart disease.
-- diabetic medications except Glucophage. Reason: they bring your sugar down, stimulating your appetite and making you eat more. This results in you’re gaining weight and therefore making your diabetes worse.
-- statins, which are type of drugs, that bring your cholesterol down like Lipitor, Pravachol, Zocor etc.. Reason: they may bring up your lipoprotein A. level while bringing your cholesterol down, which can be more dangerous than having high cholesterol. Also they may bring down your CoQ10 level. This may be dangerous if you have heart failure, because without CoQ 10 your heart cannot generate enough power to push the blood through your vessels.
Of course take statins if it is really necessary. Keep in mind that sometimes fish oil can do at least the same job.
Any decision to take or not take medication needs to be discussed with your doctor. It is never recommended that you do not take a medication when it is necessary. The question is only “when is it necessary?” Let you and your doctor find out together.
How to clean up your air:
Prevent pollution through your skin by:
Visible:
-- use natural oils instead of perfumes, because your body knows what to do with natural stuff.
-- use mineral cosmetics instead of conventional.
-- use hats with wide poles, umbrellas or cloth for sun protection instead of sun screen.
-- use baking soda, vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, Borax, liquid castile soap (you can do it yourself -- see eHow.com)
-- avoid cleaning your clothes and sheets with conventional detergents. If you cannot avoid it, then wash them in a plenty of water to remove chemicals as much as possible.
-- avoid bed bugs by never sharing sheets or clothing with anybody except your spouse.
Invisible:
-- avoid sun exposure from about 9 AM till 6 PM. Reason: at this time you may get plenty of UVB that may be harmful for you. Avoid sun bathing even with sunscreen at this time, but you can do it before 9 AM and after 6 PM in moderation. You can get sun exposure at about noon to produce vitamin D, but it should be about 15 minutes only.
-- avoid using cell phones unless it is really necessary: in emergencies etc. Use either speaker or blue tooth. Turn off the cell phone when you do not need it. Check out this site to see more information: http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Risk/cellphones
-- avoid living close to radio towers, cell phone towers, high voltage electric current lines etc.
-- avoid using microwaves ( see: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-mercola/microwave-cancer_b_684662.html for the full story on how typical appliances can harm your health).
-- shield yourself from harmful electromagnetic field -- "electromagnetic smog": turn off fuses at night if possible, turn off unnecessary electric devices, use electromagnetic shield canape, put aluminum foil under your mattress, etc.
-- avoid the toxic person next to you: his electromagnetic field can be toxic to you.
-- avoid your skin exposure to light at night time: may interfere with your melatonin production and hence your sleep. Turn off any lights in your bedroom: alarm clocks, computer lights, power on or off lights, etc.
Through your eyes:
-- avoid too much light,
-- avoid too much visual stimuli when you drive,
-- try to look at the things you really need, instead of stressing your eyes.
Through your ears:
-- avoid loud noise
-- make sure, that your bedroom is free of noise: no devices running, ideally walls in your bedroom should be made from noise absorbing material, may consider special noise absorbing shutters
-- no TV or radio when you are not actively watching or listening, especially when you sleep.
How to get rid of toxins, that are already in:
1. Go to see a doctor that specializes in detoxification, because you need to get tests done to see what the problem is. Do not do it blindly.
2. Drink enough water, which is 3.7 liters (about 14 cups) a day for men older then 18 and 2.7 liters for women older than 18 (about 10 cups). http://iom.edu/Reports/2004/Dietary-Reference-Intakes-Water-Potassium-So...
This amount of water includes juices, soups etc. Consult your doctor before deciding how much water you should drink a day. Be careful, because drinking too much water can bring your sodium too down, causing seizures and may be death.
3. Fix your gut:
-- avoid milk, wheat, carbs, alcohol, caffeine
-- eat organic
-- consult holistic physician to see if you need any antibiotics to hit bad bugs in your gut
-- same applies to probiotics: you need to figure out what probiotic you need. Go to holistic doctor to check your gut because you need specific intervention. You cannot do it blindly.
4. Eat plenty of fibers -- soluble and insoluble:
Soluble: readily digested, bind to bile, therefore bringing cholesterol down, decreases sugar absorption, helping with diabetes. It may be used as a food for beneficial bacteria. Examples: apples, pears, plums, broccoli, sweet potatoes, carrots, legumes etc.
Insoluble: increases food passage through the gut. Examples: zucchini, green beans, cauliflower, dark green leafy vegetables, fruit skins, etc.
5. Balance your hormones. For example low thyroid can cause constipation and all your toxins stay in your body.
6. Vitamins and macro- and micro-elements that help with detoxication:
Magnesium, Copper, Zinc, molybdenum, iodine and selenium (necessary for normal thyroid function), glutamine, glutathione, glycine, taurine, cysteine, methionine, SAMe, trimethylglycine, vitamins: niacin, B2, B3, B6, B12, Folate, Niacin, vit C.
7. Foods and supplements: rainbow diet, chlorella. Avoid eating excessive fat.

If you're still not sure how you can benefit from Functional Medicine Approach, look at the list below to find out how others are getting better with our treatments:
You're at peak performance. Your hormone levels are optimal, your fat-to-muscle ratio is low, and your vitamin levels are optimal, provided that you're not toxic.
Your hormone levels start declining. The first to go down is the growth hormone melatonin, then DHEA. You're fat-to-muscle ratio starts climbing up. You may notice that your energy level is not as high as before, and your sleep is not as deep and refreshing as in your 20s. Your sex drive and performance levels are still high, unless you're toxic. At this time, you may consider checking your hormones, vitamin and mineral levels to make sure that your performance is optimal.
Your hormone levels are declining at a more steady pace. For women, it is progesterone and testosterone that go down first, resulting in weight gain, poor sleep and mood swings. Then estrogen goes down, resulting in hot flashes, insomnia, unstable mode and anxiety. Your periods become irregular, then less frequent, and then stop altogether. In men testosterone declines while estrogen is going up, resulting in weight gain, muscle loss, low sex drive and erectile dysfunction. At this time you should check your hormones, minerals and vitamins to correct hormonal imbalance.
Your sex hormones, as well as melatonin, growth hormone DHEA continue to decline. At that time your digestive tract function starts to deteriorate, resulting in poor vitamin and mineral absorption. This makes your problems even worse. As this time it is necessary to check your minerals and vitamins to prevent life-threatening deficiencies. Checking your hormones is imperative to correct hormonal imbalance.
Your sex hormone levels start approaching zero. Growth hormone melatonin and DHEA are going down also. Your digestive tract function continues to degenerate. You start losing your bone strength, your memory is degenerating, as well as your vision, your ability to concentrate and sleep. At this time, if you do not replenish your hormones, vitamins and minerals, you're at high risk of losing your bone mass, muscle mass, memory and sex life.
