Dementia ( Alzheimer's Disease )

People, suffering from dementia, tend to have 2 nutrition related problems:

  1. They tend to have a diet low in vitally important nutrients including but not limited to vitamins, micro- and macro elements, omega 3 fatty acids etc.
  2. Aluminum toxicity may play a role in dementia.

Therefore dietary recommendations would be:

  1. Increase consumption of cold water fish provided that it is not toxic–check with fish selector tool, vegetables, fruits, etc.
  2. To maintain steady blood sugar level take enough foods with high complex carbohydrate content: starchy foods like potato, rice, etc.
  3. Avoid processed food, refined sugars, fruit juices etc.
  4. Avoid aluminum in cookware, aluminium foil, aluminum containing antiacids, antiperspirants etc.
Of course there are plenty of other causes of Dementia like Hormonal Imbalance, Vitamin Deficiency, Heavy Metal Toxicity etc.  To find out you need to consult Functional Medicine Doctor to find the root cause of your problem and eliminate it.
Good luck!
