Water pills for high blood pressure may be not so good

As per current recommendations water pills are the first line of treatment for high blood pressure. And they work well.

However water pills promote potassium loss, stimulating sodium. That is exactly what we do not want, because sodium goes into the cells to compensate for potassium loss, causing cell swelling and bringing blood pressure further up.

Looks like a vicious cycle. As soon as diuretics are started, blood pressure goes down and potassium goes out, making it almost impossible to stop the drug because of accumulation of intracellular sodium.

Who benefits from this? Patients? Doctors? Or somebody else?

Strongly monitor and research any medications you and your doctor are considering.
