Acne resistant to treatment can be the consequence of elevated testosterone levels. Oily skin predisposes us to acne formation.
We usually treat oily skin with exfoliation agents to open clogged pores or/and antibiotics to fight infection.
But did you know that excess testosterone could be one of the reasons for your oily skin? Even in women?
Therefore it may be appropriate to test patients with acne resistant to treatment for testosterone level. If it is high – doctors can bring it down.

thank you
Dear Alan,
Thank you for your question. Without having a full medical history, current treatment indications and testosterone dosage or current laboratory test results, it is difficult to advise you on what treatment options are available. Every patient that I treat has a treatment plan tailored to their unique needs; therefore giving you a general answer is not an option. In reality the root cause of your acne or overall condition may not be caused by low levels of testosterone and there may be many factors involved. I highly recommend that you contact Margaret (she’s my wonderful office manager) at 718.382.9200 and discuss scheduling an appointment with me for a consultation.
Sincerely,
Dr. Sergey Kalitenko
The sun can also dry out the outer layer of your skin encouraging your sebaceous glands to start producing more oil.
