Many doctors now agree that impotence is dangerous. Even in the article “Five symptoms men should not ignore,” published on CNN’s website, unenthusiastic penis is mentioned as symptom #3.
The explanation is that the penis has the same vessels as the heart, brain, kidneys etc. Therefore, if you have erectile dysfunction you may have bad penile vessels as well as coronary vessels and renal vessels, etc. So you need to check your cholesterol, heart, blood pressure etc. Sounds logical? Yes. But this is only the part of the problem.
What they do not want you to know is that the reason for impotence may not necessary be the high cholesterol or high blood pressure. Low testosterone level may be the primary reason for erectile dysfunction, and low testosterone levels lead to blood pressure elevation, high cholesterol, obesity, etc. So it is not cholesterol or blood pressure that kills you, it is your low testosterone!
Now comes the practical solution. If you suffer from impotence, should you lower your cholesterol with diet or statins like lipitor, which have numerous side effects, or you should restore your testosterone level with hormone replacement therapy?
It depends on what you want to do: to treat the cause or to treat the consequences. For me personally, I’ve chosen to treat the cause, because if I treat the consequences, I would not achieve the best results possible. It is like giving a patient having a heart attack pain medications only, and not trying to open his clogged arteries. But I want the most from contemporary medicine. So I stick with treating the primary cause. What do you think?
