It’s easy: you want to keep from getting the flu, wash your hands. Wash your hands, wash your hands!.
The flu ( common cold, not influenza ) is not transferred by droplets in the air but by touch. The influenza you can’t really control. The droplets are in the air, they get into your system, and you get sick.
But when it comes to the flu which is common cold, even though you can’t protect yourself 100 percent from it, you can take measures to limit your exposure and what you expose to others.
If you feel sick, stay home. It’s easier said than done, I know. We tend to think that the world can’t survive if we miss one day of work, but you, and your office, will be much more productive if you miss a day’s worth of work, rather than a week later on.
Try and avoid shaking hands. Though it may seem rude, the general fear of getting the flu, especially this season with the H1N1 virus being present, people will understand why you do not want to shake hands.
Wash your hands often, even if you think you haven’t touched anything dirty. Everything is dirty. Don’t assume the person who used the restroom before you washed their hands as well as you do. And don’t assume that once you wash your hands, you’re clear. Because that person before you also coughed into his hand right before he grabbed the door handle. Just keep a lookout.
Make sure that you also keep track of your stress. Make sure you watch how you eat. Try and cut out junk foods, which are detrimental to your system. Stay hydrated and get your Vitamin D. Get enough sleep to keep your immune system at its strongest. And try to stick to organic foods, or use safe detergents to clean your foods.
