The benefits of fish oil are many. It is known to aid in heart disease, weight loss, anxiety, eye disorders, skin care, cancer, diabetes, pregnancy and so much more. It is the presence of Omega 3 essential oils that provide most of the health benefits. It is sad but over the counter fish oil may be contaminated with mercury. The reason: ocean water contamination with various toxins including mercury, which may concentrate in cold water fish. It results in the mercury level going up, possibly causing hypothyroidism.
The solution is to take pharmacological-grade fish oil because its chemical content is under control.
