Female hair loss: what do you need to know
comment feedHair loss or alopecia is a common problem. Not only men but females are affected often. Approximately one third of women have experienced significant hair loss during their life time. What are the causes of female hair loss? One of the most frequent causes of female fair loss is female pattern alopecia. It is called some times androgenic alopecia, though the role of androgens remains uncertain. Another common cause is stress which could be emotional or physical, for example: after surgery or severe illness. Drugs may be the cause of hair loss. Classic example — chemotherapy for cancer. Fungal infection of the scalp can cause hair trouble.Alopecia can be caused also by such common medical problems like iron deficiency or hypothyroidism. Such uncommon diseases like discoid lupus may be the cause of hair loss.First thing, which needs to be done, is the right diagnosis. Full blood work needs to be done including but not limited to hormone levels, biochemistry, imflammation markers etc.. Sometimes hair microscopic analisis is needed, if hair fungal infection is suspected.female, women, hair loss, female hair loss, alopecia, health, women’s health, hormones
