Herbs

Why? – Because the vast majority of diabetic meds bring blood sugar down. Sounds wonderful but what is the result of low sugar? Increased appetite! What happens next? Weight gain which results in a blood sugar level increase. Looks like a vicious circle, right? The only medicine I believe is good is metformin. But is it really a chemical, invented in a lab? Do you know that this excellent medication was derived from the herb Galega oficinalis  ( not in use because it’s too toxic ) ?

Here are some herbs, which may be useful in treating type 2 diabetes:

1.  Ginseng: promotes weight loss, slows digestion and sugar absorption.

2.  Fenugreek: good to bring down cholesterol and blood sugar levels.

3.  Gurmar: helps with insulin resistance, increases insulin production.

4.  Bitter melon.

5.  Garlic.

Do not think that herbs will solve all of your problems – not at all! First is a life style modification.  And thank God it can be done.  What I’m telling my patients is to follow a “paleolitic” diet and stop in taking carbs except fruits.  Also even one apple before meals decreases your appetite significantly.  Good luck!
