Have you ever used sunscreen? Probably yes, because it is good for skin cancer prevention as well as for skin texture. And that’s very true. But it is also true that too much sunscreen can reduce the synthesis of vitamin D by 90 — 95 percent. This is not good at all. Vitamin D plays a major role in our defense against cancer. It is effective against gastrointestinal cancers, breast and prostate cancers. Vitamin D helps macrophages attack their targets. Vitamin D also prevents angiogenesis in tumor tissue. No vessels – no blood supply — no growth. Vitamin D is a very important immunostimulator. And no proper immune system equals no defense against cancer. So what needs to be done? How do we get enough vitamin D to fight cancer efficiently? One of the best ways is sun exposure. It is fast, efficient and reliable. But what about skin cancer prevention? Do we use sunscreen or not?

My answer is: use sunscreen for your face. The rest of the body should get sun exposure without sunscreen, but in a dose 30 percent of what is needed for erythema. Translated: very little.

That is what I do for myself. This does not mean that I advise anybody to do the same. Everybody should make his decision.
