Vitamin D vs. the Big C. Cancer

No other vitamin has sparked so furious a fight in a medical community as Vitamin D. The debate concerning whether or not it prevents cancer is ongoing. Naturally, the stakes in this fight are extremely high because cancer is the second highest cause of death in this country after cardiovascular disease. For this reason, we all want to know how to protect ourselves from this monster, especially because traditional western medicine does not offer preventative prescriptions. Yes, there are some screening tools like mammograms, colonoscopies and PAP smears, but these are far from 100% accurate. Therefore, we must forge our own fight with regard to cancer prevention.

Because traditional medicine does not offer a solution, I had to find one on my own. From the beginning it was not an easy task because this is not taught in medical schools. Obviously, history has shown that sometimes removing the tumor itself does not work well enough because even though cancer is removed, the root cause of the cancer was not even found and not eradicated. The result: cancer recurrence. According to some research, surgery may even promote the spread of cancer. (1) During healing from surgery our body makes growth stimulators to promote healing; unfortunately, these stimulators actually help cancer to spread. (Even large studies suggest that less invasive surgery offers at least the same survival rate as aggressive surgeries.) (2,3) Therefore, removal of a tumor is not always the optimal single solution. This hit me on a personal level because my father died of prostate cancer. I desperately needed to find out if there was any holistic preventative protection from contracting cancer. I began looking for the answer.

In 2008, the first breakthrough came. A study was published in European Journal of Cancer in June of that year which examined people with melanoma who were told by their doctors to avoid sun exposure. The patients who disobeyed the doctor’s orders and got a lot of sun exposure were actually doing better than those who followed doctor’s orders and stayed out of sun! (4) Even more revealing was the fact that the majority of melanoma patients did not have a sunlight signature mutation, making sunlight the unlikely cause of this deadly skin cancer. (5) This was puzzling because if we assume that cancer is caused by carcinogens or similar working agents like sunlight, then someone who already has cancer should stay away from those agents. Obviously, this was not the case. So, if it is not carcinogens or sunlight that caused the melanoma, what was the cause? How can we explain that women, who never smoked, still have lung cancer? Could the root cause of cancer be inside of us?

In this case, the logical explanation would be our own broken defense against cancer. Normally our body detects, kills, and then eliminates what could harm it. Bacteria or tumor cells are captured by body cells that first attack foreign enemies, namely the macrophage or dendrite cells. They release a unique signature called antigen to memory cells (lymphocytes), and then decide whether or not it is okay to let these cells live or be killed off. If the foreign bacteria are bad, or it is a cancer cell, then our body mobilizes all its resources to kill the bad cells. But does this always happen in reality? We know that it does not always occur. Somehow, our bodies do not recognize cancer cells as enemies and therefore it allows them to flourish rather than kill them. The Kitava study (6) found that people do not have cancer if they are not subject to the influences of modern civilization.

In the beginning, it appeared to me that something was really wrong with the cells that first attack the cancer cells, the lymphocytes. What could be wrong with them? Then, what I learned shocked me. Vitamin D is activated not only in the kidneys but also in the part of the immune system I was interested in – macrophages. (7) Why would our body decide to activate Vitamin D in macrophages? Is it because macrophages need Vitamin D to function? (8)

According to National Institute of Health there is no relation between Vitamin D and cancer prevention (9). Moreover, we do not need that much Vitamin D because the recommended daily dose is only 600 units. Because some products, including milk, are fortified with Vitamin D, the majority of us are getting enough of it daily, as per the National Institute of Health. Suddenly, I asked myself: Why would melanoma patients fare better if they were exposed to sun? Would this fact relate somehow to Vitamin D and its effects on the body? In its simplest form: What does sunlight do? It makes Vitamin D! Therefore, is it Vitamin D we need to get more of in order to be protected from cancer? To further investigate I needed to prove that low Vitamin D levels were related to higher cancer rates or produced a bad prognosis. What I found was this: Multiple studies showed that a lack of Vitamin D leads to either increased risk of cancer or decreased survival rates, especially for breast and colon cancer (10,11,12,13,14,15,and 16). Isn’t this impressive?

Logically, however, if Vitamin D helps immune system to function, it should help to fight other immune system diseases. Research found that low Vitamin D levels are associated with increased rates of such immune system diseases as rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis and juvenile diabetes (17). That’s not all. Vitamin D deficiency was linked to peripheral artery disease, known colloquially as “clogged arteries” (18). What about the brain? Does it need Vitamin D to function properly? Apparently yes, because not getting enough Vitamins D was linked to Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases (19).

At this point, it seemed to me that Vitamin D acts more like a prohormone, than a simple vitamin because it is needed for the successful operation of so many organs and systems. Could this also be because it is regulating one of the most important minerals in our body — calcium? Is this because the chemical structure of Vitamin D resembles steroid hormones like cortisol, estrogen and testosterone? It definitely circulates in the blood like a hormone to support multiple body functions.
Vitamin D may help you to support:

Immune system (10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17).

Vascular system (18).

Brain (19).

Bones.

Isn’t it wonderful?
Because this vitamin is so important, we want to make sure that we are getting enough of it. Did Mother Nature forget to give us a reliable way to do this? Normally, our bodies make Vitamin D in the skin with help of ultraviolet light B (UVB). This light we can get from sun or tanning lamps. UVB is the most abundant in tropics and is decreased in temperate regions and almost never detected in arctic circles. These simple facts can explain why we may be deficient in Vitamin D—because we are mostly indoors and covered by our clothing. Unless we walk around naked and spend at least half a day on the beach every day to get enough vitamin D we have to rely on its food sources (mercury-free fatty fish and fish oil, eggs, beef liver, etc.). The question is: How much is enough? According to the government, 600 units per day is enough (9). Relying on the government recommendation, I advised my patients to take that dose daily to make sure that they have enough vitamin D. I, myself, was taking about the same dose.
Still, I was puzzled. Even though the patients were taking this government recommended dose, the majority of them were deficient in Vitamin D. Moreover, even though some of them were taking as much as 50,000 units a month, they were still low in Vitamin D. Obviously, the government recommendation was not working in real life, but why? To get the answer I looked into two possibilities: Vitamin D absorption problems and its metabolic abnormalities.

Normally, ingested food is digested mainly in the stomach and then in the bowels with the help of gastric- and pan-creating enzymes as well as hydrochloric acid, where it is then absorbed into our body. Because vitamin D is fat soluble, lack of pancreatic enzymes, responsible for fat digestion, may cause low vitamin D levels. Also, increased lead burden can interfere with the absorption of vitamin D. According to the government, the toxic blood level of lead is 10. If it is above this magic number, then treatment is warranted. What if the lead level is 9? Couldn’t this also cause Vitamin D problems?

How can you get enough Vitamin D to support your bones, brain, vessels and immune system:

Get your vitamin D level checked.

Talk to your doctor about the vitamin D dose that is right for you.

Recheck your vitamin D levels in the regular bases.

If despite taking a recommended dose of vitamin D your levels are still low, and your family doctor or/and specialist cannot solve the problem, then consult with a functional medicine doctor to find the root cause of your vitamin D deficiency problem. The problem could be related to digestion or/and absorption issues, increased lead burden, etc.

BATHROOM DANGER: Avoid Doing This When You Get Out of the Shower!

Would you ever use your finger to clean out your throat? Of course not. It’s not natural. Well, neither is cleaning the inside of your ear with Q-tips or any other device that goes inside the ear.

When we place something inside our ear, we instantly damage the skin and introduce infection much more damaging than the dirt and wax that’s naturally collected there. We are not designed to sustain the pressure of cleaning our ears.

The wax inside your ear is actually a protector against water and infection. Because earwax is acidic and bacteria doesn’t do well in acidic, it protects you.

Some of us clean our ears out every day, or after every shower, but you can be causing irreparable harm. The damage you can do is very severe and not worth it.

Instead of ever going inside the ear, you can clean the outside every few days with a warm wet cotton ball.

Bad Decisions and Their Possible Origins

When Congressman Anthony Weiner stood before dozens of reporters and announced that indeed he had been “unfaithful” to his wife by carrying on an internet relationship with someone else, everyone was disappointed. “What a dumb mistake,” we all said as we watched him tear up and admit that there was no defense to what he did. Then came the shocker: not only had he done this once, but there were several relationships, that he had been carrying on for years, with women all over the country, sending them photos of himself, from his public email account. There was no hiding it and no denying it. But how could something like this happen?

The Congressman had been what his friends and colleagues considered “a contendor,” an up and coming, smart and witty congressman with a bright future ahead of him. And no doubt Anthony Weiner was smart. So what would make him do something so stupid? To risk his family, to cheat on his pregnant wife, to risk his entire career, for meaningless relationships?

That’s the age-old question. So many people cheat on their spouses, or quit their jobs at the wrong time, or date someone who is bad for them, or continue to eat terrible even though they are gaining weight, or put themselves in bad situations knowing the possible outcome. Maybe it’s not just because we are naturally flawed. We can make a joke that the Congressman was thinking with the wrong body part, but why?

And this isn’t a tirade against one person. Look at former president Bill Clinton, or Governor Arnold Schwarzennegar, or countless other disgraced public figures and stars. And it’s not only about sex. Look at actor Robert Downey Jr, who keeps getting chances at fame only to give in again and again to drugs, or Lindsay Lohan, who, no matter how many opportunities she has to get herself well, continues to be a part of the nightlife that destroyed her career.

Maybe it’s time to not just blame the people, but blame the environment as well. Toxicity can very well help us to figure out just how someone so smart or talented can take such a turn.

We have talked before about the term “mad hatter,” which came about after so many hatters were exposed to years of mercury poisoning (1), causing harsh effects on their brains. Heavy Metal Toxicity is a huge problem (2), but also one that can be treated with detoxification done by a holistic professional.

An unhealthy gut can also cause people to act unlike themselves. Get your gut checked!

Gluten intolerance is said to contribute to behavior issues, including possible symptoms of bipolar disorder. But why is something like bread so poisonous? Because our body isn’t made to ingest the gluten that is in breads now. The bacteria is different in the breads we eat today, which are unhealthy for you. Maybe We are not meant to eat bread? (3)

So, even though there is no way that a wife will forgive her cheating husband based on his gluten intolerance or heavy metal toxicity, it is important to know that we, too, are products of our environment. Our flaws not only come from how we were raised, but also where we were raised and what he have been exposed to.

Danger Lurks In Everything From Water to Spoiled Foods

The lazy days of summer are soon upon us. Time for barbecues and sunshine, long days and relaxing, family vacations and the outdoors. But with each of these summer necessities, there are plenty of dangers right under your nose. It’s important to be aware of what you are doing, what you are eating and your surroundings, to make sure that you protect yourself and your family this season.

Here are some of the most common dangers and some practical measures to help you stay safe:

Sun: We all know how dangerous the sun can be because we hear about it all the time. Too much sun can cause skin damage, or worse skin cancer. We can be out too long in the sun and get heat stroke or damage our skin permanently. Sunburns can hurt us for the moment and do irreparable damage.

The first thing to know is that sunscreen is not reliable. A recent study highlighted that the FDA regulations on sunscreen claims are not very strict and the truth is that many of them do not protect the way that they claim to. Not only that, but the amount of sunscreen that you need to put on in order to protect yourself is so much more than most people actually put on, so they are cutting their chances even more.

The easiest and most practical ways that you can protect yourself it to:

Stay out of the sun between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., or at least limit your time

If you are going to be in the sun, make sure that you have a hat and the right amount of loose clothing to let your skin breathe, but not get a tan

Do not lay out on the beach, and if you are going to relax in the sand, cover yourself with an umbrella. We are not meant to lay in the sand! Take a walk instead.

Make sure that you bring water with you!

The last practical tip comes with a warning along with it. Drink plenty of fluids, sure, but make sure that it isn’t too much. Sometimes the risk of drinking too much water can be worse than too little. Drinking too much water can actually dilute your blood too much. It can affect our brain function and can cause brain swelling and seizures. See a more detailed article click here

Hyponatremia (low sodium in your blood ) can cause seizures and death. It’s important to make sure that when you drink water, drink in moderation. If you know that you have to have eight glasses a day, it doesn’t mean that you can have them all at once and then not drink again all day. A colleague of mine once told me something I find very true. If you tell a person in Germany to take one pill three times a day for two weeks, they do it, but if you tell an American patient to do the same, they will take six a day for one week. And that can be very dangerous.

The easiest way to tell if you are thirsty or dehydrated is the old fashioned way. Check if your tongue is wet or dry. If it’s wet, you are ok. If not, drink some water!

Another summer danger is food becoming spoiled. Keep food in a cool place and try not to bring perishables with you. Choose items without mayonnaise. If it’s canned food, make sure that the can is not bulging. You can find a plethora of food safety tips click here
Drink bottled water, especially on vacation, because you never know where it comes from, or where it’s been otherwise.

If you are hiking, check often for tick bites, and use repellents. Lyme disease might sound like something easy to take care of, but it is a huge problem here, and can be deadly. Look out for what looks like simple cuts and scratches, too. They can be deadly. Clean it out with water, at the least.

Watch for wild animals. Cats, dogs, scorpions, and snakes can be deadly. Be safe! In the water, watch for jellyfish, sharks, and make sure you swim in the safe zones. Watch for your ears as well. Diving can do permanent damage.

Asthma and allergies can be deadly in the summertime. Make sure that you always have your inhaler with you if you have asthma. If you have trouble breathing, go to a doctor. You might need an inhaler for the summer months.

The lazy days of summer should not make you lazy when it comes to taking care of yourself and keeping your health on track!

Does Not Being Able to Smile Make You Unhappy?

A recent article on WebMD highlighted a study where one doctor says he found that not being able to express emotion, may actually impact the emotion. He did this by studying people who had Botox injections and Joshua Ian David, PhD was out to prove that not being able to express actually takes away from the emotional experience.

But a second opinion on the study actually states the exact opposite, saying that Botox normally makes people feel more beautiful, look happier and actually nicer. See the full story here (http://www.webmd.com/skin-beauty/news/20100623/botox-may-affect-ability-feel-emotions)

The idea that facial expression Botox limits emotions seems far fetched. When a person gets Botox they should leave the office looking and feeling beautiful. The most important thing to know is that Botox should not be done where it limits the facial expressions, anyway.

Botox, in my opinion, is like cosmetics. You are supposed to put on cosmetics to cover flaws, not to pancake it all over your face and make you look fake. No one looks good with too much makeup. Botox should have the same idea behind it.

In 2009 Botox was the number one cosmetic procedure and I feel that it makes people feel more beautiful, positive and happy. If you want to be treated with Botox, it should not effect your emotions, not only internally but physically. And it should also be done in a way that is not noticeable to the point where you feel everyone can tell.
Have you ever had

Botox treatments?

Do you think that it limited your ability to feel emotion or did it make you feel better and more beautiful?

From Checking For Hormonal Imbalance

Our obesity links us to diseases, early death; it makes us unhealthy, more susceptible to illness and terrible things in our lives. We know, as a people, that obesity will kill us. We know that people who lose weight reduce the amount of medication that they are on, feel better, work harder, and are stronger, emotionally balanced and overall happier. But, a recent article on CNN.com also suggests that the more you weigh, the more likely you are to have a bad memory. Can this be true? What can we do to make ourselves as healthy as we can be?
Yes, it is true! The article is written about a study that finds that different kinds of fat release different cytokines — the hormones that can cause inflammation and affect cognition. What’s also interesting to know is that this memory loss affects pear shaped women more than it does apple shaped women.

One explanation for this is that pear shaped bodies, as well, are linked to hormonal imbalance. And once again, our connection comes back to the natural balance of our bodies.

There are so many ways in which we show that if we balance our hormones, we can balance ourselves and become healthier, even later in our lives. Wouldn’t it be worth it to know that we could help our memories, and possibly save ourselves and our children so much suffering in the future, as well as be on less medication that might just cure the symptoms and not do anything healthy for our bodies?

Do you feel like your memory is getting worse? Are you embarrassed that you can’t always be at your best as work? Are you worried that you may suffer from dementia or Alzheimer’s in the future? Are you overweight?

It might be beneficial for you to get your hormone levels checked!

Anti Aging Holistic Beauty Treatment Is Now Available on Long Island

Are you frustrated with beauty treatments because you spend a lot of money and still don’t look younger? Do you still have sagging skin and wrinkles you cannot hide with makeup? Do you feel tired because of sleepless nights, insomnia and mood swings?

Do you think that getting a few tiny wrinkles around your eyes is not a bid deal. What you do not know is: a few wrinkles may portend a big disaster in your life — aging with hormonal imbalance.

You wake up one day and you really look at yourself in the mirror. It didn’t happen overnight, but it sure feels like it did. You got old! Your wrinkles are prominent, your skin in sagging, you have bags under your eyes from lack of sleep, and you look tired and haggard. What caused this, and how did it happen to you? You are not ready to think of yourself as old, yet.

“Every wrinkle has a reason,” says Sergey Kalitenko, MD, an Anti Aging Holistic Physician, practicing in Great Neck, Nassau county, Long Island, as well as Brooklyn and Manhattan. “There are several reasons why wrinkles happen, and it’s important to know that they cannot all be treated the same way. You need to know the reason for wrinkles to treat them appropriately.”

At Dr. Kalitenko’s offices in Great Neck, they use biofeedback and other tests to look into the root cause of your aging problems, and find the right ways to identify, diagnose, and treat them.

Appropriate history taking, physical exam and tests will show that your wrinkles came from either:

Loss of skin thickness — your skin just isn’t as thick anymore, as you age.

Loss of volume — this has nothing to do with the skin actually, but rather with the fat underneath the skin and needs to be treated differently.

Excessive muscle pull — when the skin mimics the muscle pull and is working too hard.

Loss of normal skin texture — when the elastic fibers are gone and no longer in shape.

Each of these needs to be treated in the appropriate way. This is not a “one treatment fits all” plan.

“The first few wrinkles around your eyes are so small and can barely be noticed,” says Dr. Kalitenko. “And you do not usually pay too much attention to them. So what? A little bit of makeup and you are ok. But soon your problems start to pile up and soon disaster starts.”

Treatments are becoming too expensive. Visits to the makeup counter at department stores are costing hundreds of dollars but the results are almost a joke. You could be missing one approach that could prevent disaster.

Functional medicine can save you from that disaster, because it looks for the root cause of your problem and treats it. At our offices we look into the reason for your problem. We examine why your skin is wrinkled, we look into your diet, into vitamins, and we look to treat you to make the whole you feel younger and better.

Dr. Kalitenko has also teamed up with the healing services offered at Margaret’s Paradise, to offer a full, natural beauty experience. The office makes sure that you are taken care of inside and out.

Committing to look and feel younger is not an easy process. We encourage you to learn more by signing up for one of Dr. Kalitenko’s many free e-seminars. We feature in-depth articles about bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, neurotransmitters, beauty, detoxification, and living longer.

“Most importantly, I ask that you come and see me personally for a consultation,” says Doctor Kalitenko. “There is no better way for me to tell you what I think would be the best for you, other than to meet you. I work with each patient, not their numbers, and every patient is different.”

Vitamin D Is Crucial and Moderation is the Key

Over the course of the last few decades the sun has basically become our enemy. It is the cause of skin cancer, wrinkles, problem after problem after problem. But is the sun really to blame for any of this. The sun’s always been there, but it’s really only caused a problem in the last few years. Why is it that it is so dangerous?

Truthfully, the sun is crucial to our survival. We need it to help our foods to grow, to give us light and to make us feel alive. The effects of vitamin D, produced in our body with sunlight help, are never disputed and the amount of vitamin D we can get naturally is always better than taking it in supplement form. But, as we humans always do, we take a good thing and take it too far.

A recent article in the Wall Street Journal examines why the sun has become our enemy, but the writer really never comes up with a solution. But the solution is actually pretty obvious. Read the article here: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703465204575208011470022100.html?mod=djemHL_t

Look at how we behave in the sun. It is totally unnatural. We sunbathe, we layout in the sun all day long. We make trips to the beach a social venue, where we bake our skin for hours and hours. We slather on sunblock because we think it will save us, but the sunblock can be doing harm, too.

Our bodies were not intended to bake in the sun. The amount of sun exposure we can get naturally, even on a beach, should be what we aim for as people. It is unnatural to lay out all day and let your skin turn different shades of red.

Sunburns are not natural. Dark tans are not natural. Laying in the sand is not natural. Just like you would never see a monkey using a treadmill or eating processed foods, you would never see one sunbathing either.

Sun exposure simple solutions.

Do not go sunbathing, but rather get your sun naturally

The sun is the worst between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., so try to stay out of it during those times.

If you do go out into the sun, leave as soon as you feel uncomfortable. That is your body telling you that it is too much. Whether you are feeling light-headed, or too hot, or like you might be getting sunburned, it is time to go inside. Usually the time in the sun is about 15 — 20 minutes.

If you are going to spend time on the beach, use the time to build a sand castle, or take a walk in the sand. Try to take a swim often to break up the exposure. Go collect shells. Do not just lay there inviting in cancer.

And make sure you apply sunblock if you are going to be out for more than 15 minutes.

The debate as to how long and how much sun we can have will always be prevalent. But taking a functional approach to how we are going to protect ourselves is the best choice we can make.

In our culture, being at the beach is a social event. Taking off our clothes, or being scantily clad, added to being in a social environment, often makes us forget the dangers of our surroundings. Fortunately, when you are treating your body natural, you can make things better. You can take your day on the beach and control it to make sure you are taking the best care of yourself.

What about you?

How often are you going to the beach or to the tanning salon?

At what time do you usually sunbathing?

Are you easily sunburned?

Do you apply sunscreen on the regular bases?

Only Time Will Tell If New Drug Will Have Same Effects

Everyone knows that Botox is expensive, so the hope is that with the release of new Relaxin, it will bring the competition out and the prices down.

Relaxin is still awaiting FDA approval and ist’s hard to predict now if the prices of Botox treatments will go down because it’s hard to know yet if Relaxin is as good. It will take time for the new drug to prove itself to us.

In the mean time I suggest looking for more natural treatments while you’re waiting to hear about the effects of Relaxin. Bioidentical Hormone Replacement may be an option.

Many women are suffering from tender and swollen breasts right before their period. Usually, it is one of the many symptoms, that include bloating, fatigue, even moodiness in some.

A low progesterone level can be the cause of this tenderness. Replacement with progesterone, not progestine, may help.

Estrogen Deficiency Can Be Responsible for Breast Shape

Nobody argues that breasts are a very important part of a woman’s body. Therefore, maintaining their proper shape and consistency is crucial. The main hormone responsible for their texture as well as volume is estrogen.

If a woman has enough estrogen, she can generate breast tissue to maintain its shape and density. However it is not always the case.

Estrogen deficiency is probably the most important cause of breast shape, volume and consistency problems. If there is no enough estrogen from the beginning, breasts are small after periods are started. If estrogen deficiency develops at menopausal age, it results in droopy breasts.

What can be done? The first thing that comes to my mind is to replace missing estrogen with hormone replacement therapy. Of course I’m talking about hormones with the same molecular structure as our own for the safety reasons. Surgery is another option, but would you like to subject yourself to surgery risks? I think that hormone replacement should be tried first. Surgery should be the last resort.

The Way You Look Can Determine How You Live Your Life

Everybody agrees that beauty is a big advantage in sexual relations. But what about money?

Most studies will show that a good-looking female has more of a chance to get hired, get a higher salary and be promoted. In my opinion, this isn’t surprising, as beauty is related to hormone levels and hence to functional status.

Apparently, we tend to link, maybe subconsciously, attractiveness with better performance. It may also be a conscious link, as we are more likely to notice and to talk to someone attractive. It’s an instinct to notice what someone is wearing, if they put some effort into their appearance, as we directly correlate that with putting in time and effort to impress.

Therefore beauty is not for fun, it is for survival!

That obesity is related to erectile dysfunction is a well known fact since ancient times.

Contemporary medical study published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine, the official journal of the International Society for Sexual Medicine, found that obesity is linked to low testosterone level, explaining erectile dysfunction.

But is obesity the reason of low hormones or low hormone levels are the cause of obesity? There is no answer for the question in the article. On on hand fat tissue transforms men’s main sex hormone testosterone into women’s main sex hormone estrogen, leading to erectile dysfunction. On the other hand low testosterone may lead to muscle mass drop and hence fat accumulation, leading to further testosterone drop. Which is the first and which is the second, I do not know. But from the practical standpoint weight loss is the most important thing to start with. Imagine that obesity is the primary cause of low testosterone, then weight loss is the primary goal. But even if low testosterone is the primary cause of obesity, then loosing weight will help to slow down the testosterone drop, helping with erectile dysfunction.

So let us benefit from the well known fact, that calorie restriction prolongs life. And helps with erectile disfunction too. May be sex can prolong your life!

The Importance of Looks in the World of Work

Sure, consumers need to cut down on spending. Every news station has special segments on where we can cut spending, where we can crunch numbers again, and how to save. But right now, consumers are still spending on beauty treatments like Botox, Restylane, and Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy.

Are we really so vain as a society that we would take the food from our family’s table just to look good. The answer is yes, and with good reason.

Right now, with layoffs and cuts in business spending, companies are looking to get the most out of the employees they have. They want young people, who can get paid less and have the energy to do more. It’s terrible to think your 30 years of experience as a bookkeeper may hang in the balance of the wrinkles on your forehead, but there’s an eager college graduate at the door willing to work longer hours for half the pay.

This is the time when people realize they have to break out the big guns and compete for their jobs. The way you look may make or break your job.

This is a new indication for Allergan’s glaucoma medication Lumigan. While using it for glaucoma patients and doctors noticed that it promoted eyelashes growth.

Allergan did not loose its chance — and we now have a new drug. No doubt that it is effective, but how safe it is needs to be determined.

Getting the Energy to Love Again

Can you live without love? Me? I can’t.

Love is a must. Love gives us energy; love gives us happiness; love gives us babies. Sounds easy? Not so fast.

The problem now is finding the right person, someone who can become not only your lover, but also your friend and supporter for life. This is difficult. But it is possible. How?

The most important thing in this difficult task is to be able to attract the right person. For that you need to have enough desire and energy. What substance in your body is responsible for libido and energy level? Testosterone! Estradiol!

The second thing is to make sure that you are emotionally prepared for a steady relationship. What hormone is responsible for mood stability? Estradiol!

The third is to be beautiful. What helps you maintain your beautiful skin? Estrogen! Testosterone!

How about your eyes? What makes them shine? Estradiol!

What about your weight? What substance helps you be slim? Progesterone! Estrogen!

Bottom line: to win you need to be able to compete with younger and healthier individuals. How? Via hormone replacement therapy.

Any other thoughts, ideas or considerations? Please share your story or your thoughts.

Long, thick and dark eyelashes! Who would refuse?

The problem is that except cosmetics, we do not have any way to get eyelashes longer. But there is a rumor, that very soon we’ll have a new drug to do it.

The new product is going to be manufactured by famous Allergan. The story of this product is similar to Botox: doctors noticed that glaucoma drug Lumigan makes eyelashes longer, darker and thicker. And the decision was made to use this drug, containing Bimatoprost, for eyelashes.

This drug should be applied to the eyelid margin. So far Allergan is waiting for FDA approval. There is no drug name yet.

Non-Surgical Methods To Make You Look Younger

The eyes are probably the first part of your body to attract attention. If your eyes are shining, your chances to impress someone are high. It is for this reason that eye cosmetics and beauty enhancers are so popular. But makeup cannot do much about droopy upper eyelids or swollen eyes.

Of course surgery can help in certain situations, but surgery is not for everyone.

What can be done for your eyes besides surgery?

1. Optimize your estrogen level (for men — testosterone ). Because estrogen is responsible for mucous membrane function, if you have low estrogen (or low testosterone) levels, especially if you are in menopause or andropause, your eyes will not look bright and healthy. Restoring optimal estrogen (or testosterone) levels will result in significant improvement and your eyes will shine again.

2. Optimize your growth hormone level. Reason: lack of growth hormone leads to upper eyelid skin sagging with small wrinkle formation.

3. Optimize your progesterone level. Reason: progesterone is a natural water pill. Low progesterone levels, especially in menopause, may result in eye swelling. Therefore, restoring optimal progesterone levels may decrease eye swelling dramatically.

4. Optimize your thyroid function. Reason: low thyroid function results in eyelid swelling. Normalization will result in young and healthy looking eyes.

Bottom line: to look younger enhance your natural beauty with hormone replacement therapy before it is too late.

You Can Look Ten Years Younger Without Plastic Surgery

As per a recent article in the Los Angeles Times, lawmakers are concerned with the safety of plastic surgery patients. The cause of the recent concerns is the death of Donda West, the mother of rapper Kanye West.

She underwent breast reduction and a tummy tuck and died allegedly because of surgery complications.

So many of us want to enhance our beauty, but safely. So what can be done instead of plastic surgery? Now, there are several alternatives to traditional surgical ways to enhance our beauty.

A thread lift can be a substitute for the traditional surgical facelift. It works well and can be done in a short period of time. Sometimes, it is even known as the “lunchtime left,” because it takes less than an hour.

Hormone replacement therapy can help with skin tone and texture, as well as droopy breasts and weight management issues.

Both solutions are not surgical and much safer then plastic surgery. Of course there are no perfect solutions, but before going under the knife be aware of other safe solutions. Good luck!

Hormone Replacement Can Cure Alopecia

Hair loss or alopecia is a common problem. Not only for men, the problem affects women often, too. As a matter of fact, approximately one third of women have experienced significant hair loss during their lifetime. What are the causes of female hair loss?

One of the most frequent causes of female fair loss is female pattern alopecia. It is sometimes called androgenic alopecia, though the role of androgens remains uncertain. Another common cause is stress, which could be emotional or physical, for example after surgery or severe illness. Drugs may be the cause of hair loss, as well. The classic example is chemotherapy for cancer. Fungal infection of the scalp can cause hair trouble. Alopecia can be caused also by such common medical problems like iron deficiency or hypothyroidism. Such uncommon diseases like discoid lupus may be the cause of hair loss.

First things first, we need to find the right diagnosis. Full blood work needs to be done including, but not limited to, hormone levels, biochemistry, inflammation markers, etc. Sometimes microscopic analysis of the hair is needed, if fungal infection is to be ruled out.

Lack of Hormone Can Cause Chicken Arms!

Do you know that sagging skin during menopause is explained mostly by testosterone decline? ”Chicken arms” too.

Testosterone is considered a male hormone, but nevertheless it plays an important role in a woman’s body. There are two main functions of testosterone:

1. Maintaining skin tightness tone and texture. When testosterone starts dropping — skin starts sagging.

2. Women’s libido is dependent on testosterone level. Isn’t it interesting?

Low testosterone in women is common. It starts declining along with estrogen and progesterone. Testosterone is needed to restore hormonal balance and I usually include testosterone in the hormone combination and adjust the dose after a follow-up blood test.
